Post Valentine’s Day Reminder: The Greatest Love Story Was Sung on the Cross

Happy Valentine’s Day, gentle readers!

Single, taken, “it’s complicated,” and “God is still writing the story.”

Because love is not exclusive to couples with matching outfits, dinner reservations, and chocolate boxes. We all deserve love, and we are absolutely worthy of it. So if no one has said it yet today, please accept the warmest, softest, most affectionate Valentine hug from HFP.

Now, if there’s no chocolate box or red petals waiting for you — breathe.

Wipe the tears (real or imaginary).

Gently unwrap yourself from that dramatic self-pity burrito.

Light a candle like you’re in a period drama, play a smooth, easy song, and romanticise your existence for five uninterrupted minutes while reading this without asking, “But where is my person?

Let’s be honest: platonic love and romantic love are really having their main-character moment this season and we love to see it. Flowers are flying, captions are long, and group chats are buzzing. Love should be celebrated of course.

But let’s not forget that the greatest love story didn’t involve dinner reservations, roses, or a surprise proposal.

It was written on a cross. The love that outdid every Valentine ever. (John 3:16)

No chocolates required. Just grace.

Valentine’s Day has a funny way of sneaking up on us and whispering lies like:

  • “Everyone is loved but you”

  • “Everyone is chosen but you”

  • “Everyone is happy except you”

Which is hilarious, considering half of those couples are currently arguing about where to eat. “(Single people, you’re winning silently.)”

Somewhere between the red balloons and heart-shaped everything, it’s easy to forget something quietly powerful: the greatest love story ever told didn’t require you to be prettier, richer, partnered, or “further along.” It didn’t wait for you to become impressive. It didn’t check your relationship status.

It just… showed up.

Which, if we’re being honest, is already more than some people have done.

Valentine’s Day has also become loud and not in a fun way. Loud with expectations. Loud with comparisons. Loud with the silent pressure to be “chosen.” And while there’s nothing wrong with wanting romance (please, want it!), there is something freeing about remembering that your worth isn’t hanging on today’s outcome.

You are not behind because today looks quiet.

You are not unloved because tonight looks ordinary.

And you are not missing out because your plans include rest, laughter, or being alone without being lonely.

In fact, some of the most grounded people you’ll ever meet are the ones who learned how to enjoy Valentine’s Day without turning it into a referendum on their entire lives.

So today, laugh a little. Romanticise your walk home. Send love texts to your family and friends. Eat something sweet without guilt. Let joy be casual instead of dramatic.

And if today feels tender, that’s okay too. Tender doesn’t mean broken; it just means you’re human.

Whether you’re loved loudly or quietly today, whether you’re holding hands or holding hope, whether your heart feels full or still waiting, you are included.

No pressure. No performance. Just love.

The kind that doesn’t expire at midnight.
