The 57th GMA Dove Awards 2026 - See full winners list + highlights

From standout wins to tributes honouring gospel legends, the 57th GMA Dove Awards brought Christian music together around a message bigger than the trophies.

The 57th Annual GMA Dove Awards celebrated some of Christian music’s biggest names on Tuesday, 6 October, with Phil Wickham, Brandon Lake and Josiah Queen emerging as the night's biggest winners. But beyond the awards and performances, host Tauren Wells had a message for the Christian music community: unity matters more than competition.

Held at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena and hosted by Wells for the fourth consecutive year, the ceremony brought together artists from different musical backgrounds under the theme “Together For One,” inspired by Colossians 3:14.

For Wells, the message was about recognising differences without allowing them to overshadow the Church's shared purpose.

“There's something that matters more,” he told The Christian Post, explaining that the Church's testimony to the world should be one of unity and love.

The Night's Biggest Winners

Phil Wickham, Brandon Lake and Josiah Queen each took home three Dove Awards, making them among the evening's most celebrated artists.

Wickham won Artist of the Year, while Lake was named Songwriter of the Year. Queen received Song of the Year for “Dusty Bibles”. Jamie MacDonald was named New Artist of the Year.

Wickham had entered the ceremony with nine nominations, while CeCe Winans led female artists with seven nominations.

The wins recognised individual achievements, but the evening also offered a reminder that Christian music is part of a wider community, with artists contributing different sounds and perspectives to a shared message.

Matthew West, a longtime Dove Awards regular, echoed that sentiment.

“I hope that the Christian music community is just that; it's a community. It's not a competitive one,” he said, noting that artists ultimately gather to give their gifts back to God.

Performances That Brought Different Sounds Together

The evening's musical programme reflected the diversity of contemporary Christian music, moving between worship, gospel, country and other styles.

TobyMac opened the ceremony with “Heaven on My Mind”, reuniting with Mr. TalkBox for their first performance together in ten years.

Brandon Lake joined country star Lainey Wilson for an intimate rendition of “The Jesus I Know Now”, while Tauren Wells and Naomi Raine performed “What A Miracle Feels Like”.

Other performances included Tasha Cobbs Leonard's “Church”, Jamie MacDonald's “Left It In The River”, and Anne Wilson's “Who I Am to You”.

The ceremony also made room for tributes to influential voices in music. Amy Grant and Natalie Grant honoured Dolly Parton, while Jonathan McReynolds and Kierra Sheard joined Donald Lawrence, Maurette Brown Clark and Ted Winn for a special tribute to gospel music icon Richard Smallwood.

The range of performances illustrated one of the evening's central ideas: Christian music can take many forms while remaining united by its purpose.

Reaching Beyond the Church Walls

For some artists, the growing reach of Christian music presents an opportunity to connect with listeners who might not ordinarily engage with the Church.

Franni Cash, attending her first Dove Awards as a solo artist nominee, pointed to the power of artists from different musical backgrounds coming together to share a message of hope.

Seph Schlueter similarly emphasised the importance of authenticity and the potential for music to reach people who may have experienced church hurt or have never attended church.

Mr. TalkBox, who has also worked outside Christian music, including on Bruno Mars' “24K Magic”, spoke about how those experiences can create opportunities for conversations about faith.

He encouraged Christian artists to remain grounded in their relationship with God as their influence grows, stressing the importance of prayer, Scripture and personal integrity.

His message was simple: artists should focus on preparing themselves and doing their part rather than becoming consumed by every detail of their careers.

A Community Bigger Than the Awards

The ceremony also introduced the Community Impact Award for Peace & Purpose, presented by Jesus Calling. God Behind Bars, a ministry that brings churches, discipleship and Christian resources into prisons across the United States, received the inaugural award.

Its founder, Jake Bodine, spoke about the possibility of pursuing justice while still believing in redemption, emphasising that a person's past mistakes need not define their entire life.

The award offered another perspective on the evening's broader message: Christian influence extends beyond music and entertainment into the lives and communities that the faith seeks to serve.

Keeping the Main Thing the Main Thing

As Christian music continues to reach wider audiences and embrace a broader range of musical styles, the 2026 Dove Awards presented an opportunity to reflect on what holds the community together.

For Tauren Wells, the answer was love and unity. For Matthew West, it was the shared purpose behind the music. For artists such as Seph Schlueter and Mr. TalkBox, it was the importance of pointing people towards Jesus while remaining authentic in their faith.

The awards recognised talent, songwriting and performance. But the evening's recurring message was that success in Christian music is about more than individual recognition.

It is also about community, service and the message behind the songs.

The 57th Annual GMA Dove Awards aired on TBN and the TBN+ app on Friday, 9 October, at 7:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. ET, with a simulcast on SiriusXM's The Message.
