GuvnaB bags 3rd Mobo Award despite controversial 2021 nominations plus weighs in on UK travel ban.

Updated: Dec 14, 2021

Guvna B wins ‘best gospel act’ during the MOBO Awards 2021, at The CBS Arena in Coventry beating Kirk Franklin, Cece Winans, Maverick City, S.O and CalledOut Music. This years nominees were met with some controversy amongst fans and supporters, sighting disappointment in the lack of British talent in the mix. The gospel MOBO's have always generally been a UK based thing but this year the committee supported by Premier Gospel went for a different direction. 2021 saw amazing acts from the UK and they definitely felt robbed. It however saw the UK gospel scene come together and unite for a good cause as more artists were out on the spotlight.

GuvnaB commented on the win:

Didn’t make it as a footballer but still managed to bag a hat-trick. 3-time

@MOBOAwards winner! Love to everyone that’s been part of the journey

On UK travel ban:

During an interview on Premier Gospel, he said the move was unjustified given the fact that many European countries had much higher Omicron cases than Nigeria.

“I’ve said, for ages that the continent of Africa is often given bad PR, unnecessarily so. When you look at the (Omicron) numbers and the stats, for me, it doesn’t make sense. I just pray that we can live in a society that makes fair decisions, not dependent on where people are from or their backgrounds, but just dependent on doing the right thing. That is my prayer. And I hope that in some way, shape or form people can see their family, if they’re in Africa or the Caribbean, wherever else.”
